Fans of Gilmore Girls are wishing to find out what happens next for Rory (Alexis Bledel) now that she’s expecting a baby! After the release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix, many viewers have been curious about the possibility of a season 2. So, will we get one? The revival took us back to Stars Hollow after a decade away, showing Rory’s post-college life and her struggles with adulthood. It seemed she was slipping back into her old ways, including reconnecting with past boyfriends. While it was great to see Rory and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) together again, the series wrapped up with Rory revealing her pregnancy, leaving us hanging on the fate of the Gilmore girls. What?! We still don’t know what Rory plans to do next! Many believe Logan (Matt Czuchry) is the father, but there’s no confirmation! This uncertainty is what’s fueling the requests for a season 2, though that doesn’t guarantee it’s on the way. Graham shared her thoughts with TV Line some time ago, and it didn’t sound very hopeful. She mentioned, “I’m not sure there’s a demand for more. I wouldn’t want to overstay our welcome,” but she also expressed her love for the character and her willingness to return, even in a later chat with Collider. “There’s no current plan for it. Everyone is off doing their own thing,” she noted. “If it came up again, I adore that character and I have a great respect for [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino]. I’d work with her anytime. It just comes down to what we could offer that fans would truly appreciate, or if it should just stay as reruns. So, I’m unsure.” Then, in October 2023, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino shared her thoughts with Rolling Stone. “Families never really get their issues sorted out,” she said. “They remain dysfunctional forever, which makes for the best stories since there’s no neat resolution. There were some things I wanted to explore, but time was short. I was never satisfied with how Lane’s story ended. I wish I could have developed her character more, especially since she’s based on my best friend. Apologies, Helen [Pai]. Plus, I think it would be fascinating to see how a baby and a kid would fit into the next phase of the Gilmore family.” In the meantime, Kelly Bishop, who played Emily Gilmore, recently announced her memoir, The Third Gilmore Girl, so at least there’s something fun on the horizon. We didn’t expect to see A Year in the Life come back, so while it’s wise to keep our hopes in check, there’s still a glimmer of interest in what might happen next.
